At 7:24 P.M. on January 26, 1997, World War 3 broke out between the world’s biggest nations. With the surface of the Earth scorched, survivors headed underground to create there own metropolis . The anger and hatred continued and conditions are at an all-time low.
As soon as I saw the freedom of this years Search For A Star brief, I knew what I wanted to create. Being a massive lover of the cyberpunk genre in anime, film and print media and with the newly released gameplay of Cyperpunk 2077. I decided to create an environment within the cyberpunk theme, my main inspiration being the amazing 1988 Akira movie as well as its manga counterpart.
I’m very happy with how this project ended up and I’ve learnt a lot. However, there are a few things I feel could be improved, the main thing being the large generator prop. I feel this prop needed another iteration as I kind of rushed the design process for it. When it came to the last week of the competition, I really hated the shape, so I tried to improve it by connecting it more to the floor.
The second issue I have with my environment is optimisation. I really struggled to find an efficient way to add vertex painting without tessellation or higher poly count meshes.
